Gravitation is a natural phenomenon by which objects with mass attract one another.[1] In everyday life, gravitation is most commonly thought of as the agency which lends weight to objects with mass. Gravitation compels dispersed matter to coalesce, thus accounting for the existence of the Earth, the Sun, and most of the macroscopic objects in the universe.

Based on the definition above, if we can give our business "mass" than we can attract customers, investors, employees, and the other necessary elements that define the composition of a business. Creating gravity in your business is as much an art as a science, but it is an essential component of creating anything of lasting value.
Creating gravity in your life and business ties into the larger practice of adapting simple scientific principles and using them to improve your chances of success. The concept of gravity (or mass), associated with a business, is certainly abstract. Businesses that are creating community, are in essence using this concept. The community is the result of attracting dispersed people to "coalesce" into a group focused on a goal.
So how do you create a business with "gravity"? Here are a few suggestions that I came up with (open to discussion):
- Create an aesthetically pleasing business (beautiful business)
- Use technology to achieve economies of scale
- Be simple (less is more)
- Be honest and accessible
- Empower your customers
- Treat people with respect
- Give back to your community
By implementing these strategies and practices, you can create mass within your business, and attract the necessary elements for success. What other means can we use to accomplish this in an ethical manner? Do you think this concept is too abstract to be practical? Why? Can we apply physics and other scientific disciplines to our businesses? How so?
